The complete metamorphosis of a studio in Alet les Bains

Before:
After:

This project is a good example of a real metamorphosis. The English owners of the studio, both retired, chose to move to France. Instead of buying a new house they decided to do a radical renovation of their smal 1970s style second home. New layout, new style, new furniture, new life.

Design considerations
The small apartment of 44 m2 had a small bedroom with a south facing window, a living area with kitchen and south facing terrace doors and a bathroom with a window on the facing north. To optimise the space I opened up the bedroom to the living area without compromising privacy, I repositioned the bathroom to capture the light of the north window into the living area, I created a lot of extra storage space  and I  chose white, simple and stylish furniture to create a light, modern and fresh ambiance.
The the apartment floor as well as the bathroom walls were retiled with large natural gray tiles. The other walls have been re-plastered smoothly and painted in off white with a grey accent wall in the bedroom. (Farrow and Ball colors 'pointing' and 'plummett')
As the bathroom was small and oddly shaped I have designed  bespoke furniture. The shower tray has been custom made by a stone cutter in a grey limestone and supplied with a Led strip underneath to achieve a floating effect.
I made a minimalistic design in grey limestone for the washbasin with a bespoke drain made by a welder. The technical parts of the basin are invisible, water flows along a linear slot, the sink image remains clean and pure.
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” (Leonardo da Vinci)
